Our Team
Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire is a family-orientated business. We maintain a family ethos in all our activities and always try and provide that extra touch.
We have put together some short pen profiles below, so that you know who is on the other end of the phone when you ring the office.
Matthew
Matthew was born in Lancaster and raised in Hutton Roof, attending Queen Elizabeth School, Kirkby Lonsdale. Part time jobs included working in the warehouse of Peter Rabbit & Friends, Marquee Erecting at Evans Marquee Hire, working on a French campsite for Canvas Holidays and from the age of 12, learning to drive a sweeping brush around buses and coaches most Saturdays for Mum and Dad until he was old enough to drive.
Taking his PSV licence at 18, he learned bus driving along the rural roads of Lancaster and Kirkby Lonsdale on late shifts, early shifts and some in the day time.
After a year travelling to Australia for conservation work, New Zealand for bungee jumps and America to see friends, he started a Transport and Logistics course at Huddersfield University, also studying on the ERASMUS scheme in the Netherlands for 6 months where he met the most fantastic friends he regularly meets each year.
Working for Whittles Coaches for just under 2 years in Ludlow and Kidderminster furthered his understanding of the industry and helped complete his requirements for his degree and upon finishing his degree, it was time to do some real work and he started at Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire properly in 2007.
Matthew is an avid sports and cricket fan and has had opportunity to visit Sri Lanka and India following the England Cricket Team. He also enjoys playing for the Gregson Cricket Team in Lancaster with his teammates, travelling when he can and catching up with his friends.
Richard
Richard was born in Warrington back in the days of black and white photography. He worked at Blockbuster in Swansea whilst attending Swansea University and one look at his face would show that he had a very difficult paper-round in the valleys.
Richard has really fluffy hair and is known around most Real Ale pubs and empty museums as Fluff.
He worked with his Dad operating GB Coaches, and then at Battersby Silver Grey for 7 years until he started with Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire in August 2012 when he took a mirror off a coach on his first day, then asked Matthew to put it back on, parking accurately in a nettle patch, meaning Matthew got nettled because Richard has really short legs and couldn't reach.
Richard likes trains, anoraks and really boring things. He loves to correct people with really mundane facts and knowledge that you couldn't care less about! If you hear the words "Actually, I think you'll find.... or "What you've really got to remember is...." Run. Far away. quickly. You've been warned!
Richard is actually the brains behind the operation. He's a sucker for french poetry, makes chipmink noises when he gets excited and secretly wants a gold and bling car. ssssshhhhh don't tell anyone!
